Effective Dog Training Techniques.

Training a dog is a wonderful thing to do for both of you. From basic obedience to advanced techniques, proper socialization and instruction is not only necessary to have your dog be a good canine citizen, but it will help keep your dog safe and happy. Check out these great dog training tips.

Consistency and praise are what help the learning process along for dogs. You should show the dog the things it has to do, then create a routine and give the dog rewards during practice sessions. This is, if not the only, certainly the best method for effective dog training. The key is to praise success and maintain continuity.

In order to keep your dog trained, you need to keep him active throughout his life cycle. Dogs, like people, shouldn't be sedentary. Dogs need to run around and do activities with their owners to be at their best. Take your pet to the dog park or help him learn a new skill that keeps him active, such as playing fetch with tennis balls or catching a Frisbee in mid-flight. Try not to let boredom set in with your dog by keeping him active as much as possible.

A good training method for your dog is to have him hold an object in his mouth. Start by using a clicker and treating him every time he picks up a toy in his mouth. Once he's got that down, only reward him every five times he completes the action. As soon as the dog does this, use the clicker and give a reward. It is important to only reward him again if he picks up the toy with his mouth on his own.

Use your dog's name often to get and keep his attention. It is especially important to do this during the first weeks of training, in order to establish that name-attention association. It's best to stick with shorter names, one's that are distinguishable from other words.

Repeat training exercises every day until your dog remembers them. Too many owners tend to be under the impression that once they have trained their dog, that's the end of it. Like their human owners, pets truly are creatures of habit. Dogs, much like kids, do best when they have limits and rules.

Know when you might need professional help. Particularly if you are struggling to achieve the results you desire, professional help may be just what you need. A professional can help teach you the right training methods, that will work for your dog.

Offer only your dog's most favored treats when rewarding exceptionally good behavior, or when he accomplishes particularly difficult feats. Even if its foods that are not generally permitted, like hotdogs or cheese.

Be careful not to spend too much time at once training your dog. If you spend a lot of time on only one thing, your dog can get bored and frustrated. Do not spend more than 10 minutes on each session.

If you feel that you cannot maintain a fully patient state, do not begin a training session. If you aren't patient, your dog will quickly lose focus and tire of training.

It is dangerous to put more than one dog together in a close space. This is due to the fact that they could become tangled in each others cords and end up injuring themselves when trying to get free. If two dogs' chains become entangled, it is possible that one or both dogs could experience difficulty breathing or even strangulation.

During the dog training process, it is a good idea to use various treats as rewards for your dog's good behavior. You can increase your dog's incentive to learn the desired behaviors by offering treats that are extra-special. This helps your pet to understand that this is no ordinary reward.

Both dogs and owners are happy when the dog is well-trained. The tips listed here will lead you to dog training success..
